It will be seen that the most
important recommendations of the Report have
been adopted, though, as far as the Constitution of the University is concerned the question of
its simplification has been referred to a
Committee, to be nominated by the Chancellor,
for further consideration and for the preparation
of such draft amendments of the University
Ordinance as may be found necessary.
Resolutions III of the Court may be
particularly noted as showing that the Court
and Council are satisfied that the Committee's
Report did not intend to convey by paragraph
73 of the Report an impression derogatory to
the professional status of the Professors of
the University. The despatch states that this
resolution has had the effect of removing a
sense of grievance under which a number of the
members of the staff have suffered.
In view
of the previous acrimonious correspondence on
this particular score, which is registered on
the /37 file I think this development is very
satisfactory.
The Governor states that he has no
hesitation in advising the S. of S. that the
conclusions of the Court render unnecessary an
independent academic commission to study the
problems in question. In view of the large
